A couple of weeks ago, for my boyfriend's birthday, I bought him a Microsoft Recertified Xbox 360 for $180 at Consumer Depot. I was somewhat worried about buying a refurbished Xbox after reading several reviews online that talked about the Xbox Red Circle of Death. This I guess happens when the Xbox power ring turns from green to red. When this happens I guess your xbox is fried and will no longer work. From what I have gathered from my many searches on the web, the Xbox red circle of death occurs when the xbox overheats due to the poor design of the ventilation system.
Even though I was told by a salesman at Gamestop that there was a 40% chance of purchasing an Xbox that would soon develop the red circle of death, which meant that there was also a 60% chance that I would purchase an Xbox that would never have this problem. He told me that he had purchased a refurbished model 8 months ago that was still going strong, but the manager of the store was on his 8TH! refurbished Xbox, so I guess its a hit or miss with these systems. So if you are in the market for one of these babies, be careful and make sure you get a warranty! supposedly, if you have this problem, it is more likely to show up within the first month of use, so if you do buy one make sure you use the sh*t out of it. If it is going to break, make sure it breaks within the warranty period. Ok, anyway, needless to say I took the chance and bought the system, and am still hoping that I acquired one of the good Xbox's on the market.
When I got the Xbox home we hooked it up and turned it on. We were a little surprised when we heard loud the Xbox was while running. It sounded like the fan was really running hard, but we hoped the noise would decrease as time went on. However, we were dissapointed when the noise continued the whole time it was running. But, it really isn't loud enough to be crazy annoying so we decided we were ok with it. I mean, at least we know the fan is working right? Maybe this super fan will save us from experiencing the red circle of death...cross your fingers! :)
Alright, now down to how awesome the xbox is: This thing is great! I think I enjoy it more than Nate (my boyfriend). Not only can you play video games with killer graphics, but this system allows you to play movies straight from your computer, as well as, watch thousands of movies and tv shows instantly online through a $8 netflix subscription! We actually use the xbox more for its media extender capabilities than for the video games. You can watch movies, listen to music, look at pictures, and so much more with this AMAZING machine. We absolutely love it! So, even if you are not a video game enthusiast I still would highly recommend this system just for its media extender capabilities alone. If you are in the market for one of these great systems I suggest checking out a shopping deals website to see if there are any current deals on these great systems.
